ReGenerate wins $100k “Think Green” prize sponsored by Waste Management at Rice Business Plan Competition

This weekend our team competed in what is perhaps our most competitive event yet: The Rice Business Plan Competition. From an original pool of more than 500 teams we were excited to have the opportunity to participate. Of course, we were even more excited to receive the top sustainability prize, sponsored by Waste Management and worth $100,000.

Congratulations are in order for the other team representing Michigan, Are You a Human?, who finished 2nd overall and won another of the big-ticket sponsored prizes for most promising IT.

ReGenerate wins Dow Sustainability Student Innovation Challenge

Our team was selected as one of three at the University of Michigan to receive $10k prize and the opportunity to present our technology to a larger audience in Berkeley, CA this fall. The other two winners were Smart Energy, and Impact Everyday. Read more about the competition by clicking here.

ReGenerate wins the Erb Sustainability prize, 1st Runner up at Michigan Business Challenge

Friday was a huge day or our team! In addition to being awarded the Dare to Dream Integration Grant, ReGenerate finished 2nd overall in the Michigan Business Challenge (MBC) and won the Erb Award for Sustainability. In total, we took home $27,500 in earnings.

ReGenerate awarded a Dare to Dream grant

The Zell-Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial studies has awarded our team a$10k Dare to Dream Integration Grant. According to the ZLI website, the purpose of the grant is as follows: “The Integration Grant pushes the team to create a business plan and investor pitch with the ultimate goal of actually launching the business”.

The business & technology oriented news site Xconomy wrote an excellent piece about our company recently. In the article “U-M Grad Students Add Startup Company ReGenerate to School Duties”, Ryan McBride writes

It began in 2009 as a project among University of Michigan graduate students to find alternative uses for food waste. Now it’s a company called ReGenerate Solutions, which might be one of the hottest new startups in Southeast Michigan.

Our team was featured on the Big10 Network’s “University Showcase: Michigan”, which did a segment on how innovation and entrepreneurship are crucial for Michigan’s economic development. In particular, the producers focused on the Accelerate Michigan Innovation Challenge that was hosted here in Ann Arbor last month.

ReGenerate tops 300+ teams, wins grand prize at the 2010 Accelerate Michigan student business plan competition

A new season of business plan competitions is upon us, and ReGenerate is off to a great start! On Friday, December 10th, we claimed the Grand Prize in the Accelerate Michigan student business plan competition. This is the most competitive event in which we have participated so far.

The University of Michigan and DTE Energy have partnered to engage the next generation of leaders in clean energy and increase the speed of energy innovation. For the 2009-2010 academic year, we are offering a $100,000 Clean Energy Prize to help draw emerging technologies out of university labs in the state of Michigan and into the commercial space.
